Report: NBA commissioner Silver finalizing extension through end of decade

[ad_1]

NBA commissioner Adam Silver is close to signing an extension that will keep him in the job through the end of the decade, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday.

Silver, previously the deputy commissioner, took over from David Stern in February 2014.

Wojnarowski says Silver will be entrusted with signing new media rights deals as well as pursuing expansion.

Silver has introduced the In-Season Tournament and Play-In Tournament during his run.

The In-Season Tournament, which started this year, earned positive reviews. It was won by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Silver negotiated a CBA that ensures labour peace through 2029. He also earned praise for making the NBA the first major North American league to suspend play in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
