After capturing his first MVP award last season, Joel Embiid looks like a man on a mission as he tries to get the Philadelphia 76ers back to the NBA Finals.

Embiid has been making headlines throughout the 2023-24 NBA season with amazing performances, though he outdid himself this past week when he scored a career-high 70 points in the 76ers’ win over the San Antonio Spurs.

The former No. 3 overall pick has been scoring almost at will, using his size and strength to overpower defenders in the post.

However, he’s always mastered the midrange jump shot, an unstoppable shot for defenders to stop given Embiid’s height.

Philadelphia still has a lot of questions to answer because they have yet to advance past the second round with Embiid, but this year feels like the year they finally do it.

Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers has been impressed with Embiid and named him the most physically dominant player in the league right now via ESPN.

“I love Jokic, but Embiid is the most physically dominant player in the NBA right now,” Myers said.

Myers’ comments raised eyebrows as he picked Embiid over Nikola Jokic as his preferred center in a hypothetical Game 7.

Jokic is having another MVP-worthy season, but Embiid’s capturing the media attention because of how efficiently and easily he’s scoring on a nightly basis.

Embiid is well on his way to repeating as MVP if he can keep this torrid scoring pace up, but the challenge will come in the postseason where all the defensive attention will be on him.
