The football world is buzzing over the news that the Los Angeles Chargers are hiring Jim Harbaugh to be their next head coach.
He’s the man the team and its fans apparently wanted the most, and he should bring the long-suffering franchise some instant respect and credibility.
Over the last two seasons, the Chargers have had the talent to at least make a deep playoff run, but they have won a combined 15 games and zero playoff contests during that time.
The big advantage Harbaugh will have is star quarterback Justin Herbert, and Skip Bayless tweeted that he feels Harbaugh and Herbert will lead the Chargers to a Super Bowl championship.

Herbert is one of the NFL’s best and most physically-gifted QBs, and he set a rookie record for the most touchdown passes by a first-year player with 31 in 2020.
His numbers went down this season amidst what was a messy campaign for L.A., but his talent and ability remain undeniable.
The team also has a Pro Bowl wide receiver in Keenan Allen and two studs on defense in pass rushers Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa, and will have the No. 5 pick in the upcoming draft, which can be used on an impact player.
To be sure, the Chargers still have issues — their salary cap situation is difficult, and they still need to hire a new general manager.
Former GM Tom Telesco was fired on the same day that former head coach Brandon Staley was dismissed following an embarrassing 63-21 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15.
But the Chargers have taken a big step toward putting themselves on the same level as the Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Dodgers in terms of the pantheon of local sports teams that have won world championships.
