After legendary head coach Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots officially parted ways after 24 years together, the consensus was that he would not be unemployed for very long, with the Atlanta Falcons thought to be the team that desperately wanted to hire him.
On Thursday, that all changed, even though Belichick interviewed with the team twice, as the Falcons brass decided to go with former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their new head coach.
This was a shocking turn of events, as the Falcons had done their due diligence in their coaching search by interviewing 14 candidates for the job and bringing a select few in for second interviews.
With the Falcons deciding to go with Morris and the Los Angeles Chargers recently hiring Jim Harbaugh, Belichick’s options on the open market are dwindling, as it also appears he’s a long shot to land the job with the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.
Bill Belichick is currently viewed as a long shot for the Commanders and Seahawks coaching vacancies, sources said. It’d take a change of direction for something to happen with either team.

The Commanders’ vacancy was thought to be an intriguing job for Belichick, with the team wanting a culture change and who better to bring in than someone who has led a franchise to six Super Bowl titles as a head coach.
However, it’s starting to look like Belichick and possibly Mike Vrabel may be forced to take a year off from coaching in the NFL, with a lot of these jobs getting taken left and right.
Much like this year, there will likely be no shortage of jobs this time next year.
