“Senate Minority Whip John Thune has an interesting history with former President Donald Trump. Trump tried to get someone to primary Thune to no avail. Thune endorsed Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) for president. The South Dakota Republican has never been shy about criticizing Trump,” Punchbowl News reports.
“But today, after Trump romped through the New Hampshire primary, Thune got awfully close to endorsing the former president.”
Here’s what he said: “I just think that I’m interested in what the people are saying. Voters are breaking heavily in his favor. And he’s in a commanding position. I’ve said all along I’ll support the nominee. So if he’s the nominee, I’ll do what I can to help the team win the presidency and the Senate and put an end to the Biden-Schumer agenda.”
