The Dallas Cowboys are still evaluating what went wrong after their latest playoff setback at the hands of the Green Bay Packers just over a week ago.
They won 12 games in the regular season and looked dominant at times, yet the Packers rang up 48 points against them and led by as many as 32 points in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Despite winning 12 games in each of the last three seasons, the Cowboys have gotten to the divisional round only once and haven’t been to the NFC Championship Game since the 1995 campaign.
In fact, almost every other NFL team has been to a conference championship game more recently than the Cowboys have, per NFL on CBS.

1995 was also the last time Dallas won the Super Bowl, and it was the third in four years for a crew that included Hall of Famers Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin.
Years later, they hoped to recapture that glory with Tony Romo as their quarterback, but he had a grand total of two playoff wins against four playoff losses in his 10 seasons as their starter.
Dak Prescott supplanted him in 2016, but Prescott has been even worse in the postseason so far with a 2-5 record.
Dallas has one of the league’s most talented rosters, but at this point, it is clear that Prescott and his inability to play up to his potential in big games may be holding them back.
He will be a free agent at the end of next season, and at this point, whether the Cowboys will hold on to him beyond 2024 seems to be an open question.
