The New England Patriots are going through some major changes, but at the same time, it feels like things will stay pretty much the same.
For starters, they replaced Bill Belichick with Jerod Mayo, who has drawn plenty of praise and recognition for being like a younger version of his predecessor.
Now, it seems like they could have yet another familiar face calling plays in Foxboro next season.
According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Josh McDaniels making his way back to Gillette Stadium.
“Expect Josh McDaniels to be at the top of the list for Jerod Mayo’s next offensive coordinator,” Garafolo said.

He reported on NFL GameDay that even though Bill O’Brien continues to be under contract, the Patriots could decide to part ways with him.
That means Josh McDaniels could have a free path to go back to the place where he’s found the most success in his coaching career.
On top of that, it could also mean the Patriots are sticking with Mac Jones, at least for another season, while they develop another QB, remembering they do have the No. 3 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Jones had the best season of his young career playing under McDaniels, and his regression started as soon as McDaniels left.
His lack of development was reportedly one of the reasons why Robert Kraft wasn’t happy, so he clearly has a high regard for the young QB.
McDaniels’ two stints as a head coach have been far from successful, but he’s been one of the best offensive coordinators in the game for years now.
