The Seattle Seahawks made the shocking decision to move on from Pete Carroll as their head coach this week after 14 seasons at the helm.
Carroll will reportedly remain with the organization in an advisory role, but his farewell press conference sure sounded as though he wanted to continue coaching.
NFL analyst Colin Cowherd believes Carroll’s press conference wasn’t just about saying goodbye to the job, though, and Cowherd said on his podcast that Carroll’s words were effectively letting everyone know what his future intentions are with his career.
“I think Pete is going to coach again. I think Pete wants to coach again,” Cowherd said. “That press conference was not only classy by Pete, but he was sending messages to all the GMs. And maybe all the athletic directors in college. He was sending messages.”

Carroll would be an ideal head coaching candidate for a team looking to change the culture of their organization and one that is in win-now mode.
He transformed the Seahawks into a perennial contender in just a few seasons and made the playoffs in the majority of his years with the team.
The only issues with Carroll are his age – he’ll be 73 by the time the 2024 season starts – and if he would be allowed to leave the Seahawks organization.
But if there’s a team out there – either in the NFL or in college – who wants to test the waters with Carroll, his final press conference as head coach of the Seahawks may have indicated his interested in other opportunities.
