Bill Belichick is still the head coach of the New England Patriots and will remain as such until the team either trades him to another organization or fires him this offseason.

That decision reportedly won’t come for a few weeks, so the NFL world is left to speculate on who Belichick will coach in 2024.

While remaining with the Patriots is one of the most likely scenarios, betting odds indicate the Los Angeles Chargers are actually the favorite landing spot for the coach (via Bears Bets Podcast).

The Chargers make a lot of sense given the infrastructure already in place: L.A. has a franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert, solid skill position players, and quality defensive talent as well.

There are obvious gaps across the roster, but the biggest issues with the Chargers have mostly come on the coaching side – which is why Brandon Staley was fired before the end of the 2023 season.

The installation of Belichick in Los Angeles would set up an interesting dynamic in the AFC West with Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs.

They are two of the best head coaches in recent NFL history and would face each other twice a year for as many years as Belichick (or Reid) remain the head coach of their respective teams.

But, perhaps, the Chargers would rather go down a first-time head coach route again with a long-term future in mind and perhaps the Patriots aren’t even interested in letting Belichick go just yet.

The offseason is still young, so time will tell what either side will do.
