The Los Angeles Chargers didn’t need to wait until the end of the season to realize that they needed a big change for their future.
Brandon Staley entered the season on the hot seat and did little to keep his job this year, so it was far from a surprise to see him being shown the door long before the end of the campaign.
And now that the team is looking for replacements, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports that University of Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh is a top candidate for them:
“University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, who recently hired NFL agent Don Yee (who represents both Tom Brady and Sean Payton), is a top candidate for Los Angeles. We’ll see how aggressive the Spanos family will get and if they are the first team to get Harbaugh on the phone after Monday’s College Football Playoff championship game,” wrote Russini.
The Chargers are casting a wide net for their coaching option and that means looking at every option.
University of Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh is a top candidate for Los Angeles, per @DMRussini.
Harbaugh is very much atop the Raiders’ list as well.

The report also states that Harbaugh is being considered for the Las Vegas Raiders’ coaching job as well.
Harbaugh has plenty of experience in the league and some analysts believe he should’ve never left.
He’s done a great job with the Wolverines, and now that he’s on the wrong side of an NCAA investigation and likely to be suspended for the third time since taking the reins of the team, the timing is perfect for him to make his long-awaited comeback.
Some rumors also stated that the Chargers could pursue Bill Belichick for their HC position, assuming he could become available.
The New England Patriots signed him to a contract extension, most likely being aware of other team’s interest in his services, so the Chargers would have to trade for him, making Harbaugh a more convenient candidate.
Whatever the case, it seems like Harbaugh is finally ready to get back to the professionals, even if it’s not in Los Angeles.
