Although technically not mathematically eliminated from the 2023 NFL Playoffs, the Denver Broncos are essentially out given their 7-8 record.
With only two games left to go, the Broncos are better off evaluating other players on their roster ahead of the 2024 NFL campaign.
Denver already made one massive move regarding the roster as they are benching Russell Wilson in favor of Jarrett Stidham.
The move comes in the midst of a 1-3 stretch from the Broncos, though reportedly it also has to do with Wilson’s unwillingness to defer the injury guarantee date in his contract.
Besides Wilson’s benching, Denver’s wideout corps will also be shorthanded in Week 17 against the Los Angeles Chargers as Courtland Sutton was already ruled out.
With Jerry Jeudy and Marvin Mims also questionable, the team is elevating two receivers to the active roster via Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“With WR Courtland Sutton ruled out and WRs Jerry Jeudy and Marvin Mims listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Chargers, the Broncos promoted WR Michael Bandy and elevated WR Phillip Dorsett to their active roster,” Schefter tweeted.

Michael Bandy and Phillip Dorsett are hardly household names, though Stidham and head coach Sean Payton will need to work with what they have available.
Like the Broncos, the Chargers have nothing left to play for and are also evaluating their roster ahead of next season.
It’s not quite the AFC West rivalry game fans are accustomed to seeing, though at this point of the year, beggars can’t be choosers.
For now, it’ll be interesting to see if the two teams can give their fans something to cheer for before the new year.
