Detroit Red Wings forward David Perron has been offered an in-person hearing by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for cross-checking Ottawa Senators defenceman Artem Zub.

With an in-person hearing, the league has the option to suspend Perron for more than five games, as Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports.

The incident occurred during the first period after Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin collapsed to the ice when he was hit in the head area by Mathieu Joseph and Parker Kelly.

Perron went after Zub in retaliation, catching the defenceman with a cross-check to the head. Perron was assessed a five-minute match penalty for intent to injure.

Both Joseph and Kelly were assessed a two-minute minor penalty for roughing.
