Before heading into the 2022 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs sent shockwaves throughout the NFL by trading superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins after the two sides were unable to see eye-to-eye on a lucrative contract extension.
After sending Hill to Miami, it was uncertain whether the Chiefs offense would remain one of the most potent in the league, but Kansas City went on to defy the odds and win it all for the second time with Patrick Mahomes under center and Andy Reid calling the shots on the sideline.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t until the 2023 NFL season that the Chiefs would really feel the absence of Hill downfield, with the Chiefs’ current receiving corps being one of the worst in the league.
One receiver who was expected to step up in Hill’s absence was Marquez Valdes-Scantling, but he has failed to live up to expectations over the past two seasons and currently only has 17 catches on the season.
Frustrations boiled to the surface for Valdes-Scantling recently in this locker room interview in which he didn’t like the questions he was fielding from PJ Green of FOX4 News Kansas City, which he felt compelled to respond to on Twitter.
You’re better than this PJ. Fishing for whatever answer you were chasing is not the best form of journalism. I’m disappointed in your lack of understanding, and the lack of research and effort that you put into your questions with me today. So my demeanor was directed at you.

Even though Valdes-Scantling tried to deflect the question about his poor play this season, the fact remains that he hasn’t really made an impact on this team that desperately needs some production from the wide receiver position.
It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out over the next few months and whether the lack of a consistent threat downfield may hurt the Chiefs’ chances of repeating as Super Bowl champions.
