As Israel pushes on with military operations across the Gaza Strip, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said there is “a gap between” what Israel agreed to do in its military operations — prioritize reducing noncombatant casualties — and “the actual results that we’re seeing on the ground.” In Rafah, the southern part of the enclave that borders Egypt, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported “overcrowded conditions and lack of basic resources” and expressed concern about a potential “breakdown in law and order under these conditions.” The Gaza Health Ministry said 350 people were killed in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to more than 17,000.
