Flames’ Markstrom to be evaluated after suffering hand injury in practice

Calgary Flames goalie Jacob Markstrom is going for further evaluation after exiting practice on Monday with a hand injury, the team said.

Markstrom left practice immediately after making a save on his blocker hand. Sportsnet’s Eric Francis reported blood was pouring out of what appeared to be his finger.

Markstrom has started 16 of the club’s 24 games this season, going 6-8-2 with a 2.94 goals-against average and .896 save percentage.

The 33-year-old Swede was a Vezina Trophy finalist in 2021-22 with the Flames before his numbers took a dip last season in a non-playoff year for Calgary.

Dan Vladar is Calgary’s backup goalie with top prospect Dustin Wolf in the AHL with the Calgary Wranglers.

The Flames host the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.
