This weekend, a report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini revealed that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell would like to permanently ban the Philadelphia Eagles’ infamous “tush push” play from the league.

The Eagles have been very successful when running this play in short-yardage situations, as almost every one of their opponents has been unable to find a way to stop it.

So, with Goodell as the voice of the NFL owners, this recent report shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone since banning the play might be the only way some teams can stop it.

Reactions to the report have already begun to pour in, and Philadelphia offensive tackle Lane Johnson is among the group that is unhappy with the potential ban of the play (via Lane Johnson on Twitter).

Johnson’s “hate us cause they ain’t us” post alludes to the other teams around the league being jealous of the Eagles’ success with the play.

This could be true since Philadelphia is not the only NFL team to attempt the “tush push” play this season, they’ve just experienced the most success with the play.

The league’s case for banning the play has taken a bit of a hit this year, with other teams attempting and failing to run the play as well as the Eagles do.

If other teams were able to use the play to their advantage as much as Philadelphia has been able to, then the play likely wouldn’t be viewed as unfair.

But instead of their teams attempting to stop the play on the field, it seems like some NFL owners would like to just take the easy way out.
