As usual, Aaron Rodgers has found a way to put himself in the headlines and attract attention to himself.

When he went down with a torn Achilles on the New York Jets’ first offensive series this season, everyone presumed he was done for the year, but he recently made noise about attempting a return in December.

So far, he has walked the walk by returning to practice this week, and he almost seemed to hint at a timeline for his return when he was asked if he could play before the Jets host the Washington Commanders on Christmas Eve, per Brian Costello.

Reportedly, the specific game Rodgers has been targeting for his potential return will take place on December 17 on the road against the Miami Dolphins.

It is unheard of for a pro athlete in a major sport to return only about three months after suffering a torn Achilles, and if he were to successfully return and hold up, it would be quite a story.

But there is also the matter of whether Rodgers will be able to play at a high level once he returns, whether it happens this season or next.

Last season, his numbers were subpar, at least by his standards, and with all the wear and tear he has accumulated over 15 years of being a starting QB, it is natural to be skeptical he will ever play excellent football again.

Rodgers, who won the regular-season MVP in 2020 and 2021, will turn 40 years of age on Saturday.
