The Miami Dolphins improved to 8-3 by winning the NFL’s first-ever Black Friday game against the New York Jets, and they have arguably the league’s best offense.

Star wide receiver Tyreek Hill could be having a historic season while running back Raheem Mostert leads the league in rushing touchdowns with 13.

Yet plenty don’t really believe in Miami as a true Super Bowl contender, as they haven’t beaten any teams that will likely make the playoffs this season.

Defense has perhaps been the main culprit, and per Ian Rapoport, Miami has made an addition to that side of the football: Jason Pierre-Paul.

This move comes on the heels of the torn Achilles linebacker Jaelan Phillips suffered in Friday’s game.

Pierre-Paul, 34, is a 14-year veteran, and he is a three-time Pro Bowler who won two Super Bowl championships, one with the 2011 New York Giants and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.

His production greatly declined in 2021 as he dealt with a rotator cuff injury, and he has appeared in just one game this season for the New Orleans Saints as a member of their practice squad.

Pierre-Paul has recorded double-digit sacks three times, and he got some consideration for the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2011.

The Dolphins are just 22nd in passing touchdowns given up and 23rd in points allowed this year, and improving on that side of the football would be the next step for them in terms of getting closer to the ultimate prize.

They have made the playoffs just three times in the last 20-plus seasons, and they haven’t reached the Super Bowl since the 1984 campaign.
