After some false success earlier this season, it has become painfully obvious that the New York Jets just don’t have the goods to seriously challenge for a playoff spot.

They lost future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a torn Achilles on their first offensive series of the season, which forced third-year man Zach Wilson to take over under center.

After Wilson continued to struggle for most of this year, New York finally benched him late in their 32-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Not only was Wilson benched, but he will reportedly be their third-string QB moving forward, per Ari Meirov.

In 10 games this year, Wilson has completed just 59.2 percent of his pass attempts, and he has thrown for just 1,944 yards while having more interceptions (seven) than touchdown passes (six).

By now, it is clear that he will never be the answer for a Jets franchise that hasn’t had a very high-quality quarterback since Joe Namath about half a century ago.

Wilson was originally the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and in his final year at Brigham Young University, he threw for 3,692 yards and 33 touchdowns while adding 10 touchdowns on the ground in 12 games.

The Jets are now 4-6, and while their defense has often been solid, they have had one of the worst offenses in football.

They have been whispers that Rodgers may attempt a comeback later this season, and while it is admirable that he has thrown himself into the rehab process, coming back so soon from a torn Achilles may not be a smart move.
