The 2023 NFL season is shaping up to be a lost one for the New England Patriots as they fell to 2-8 after an embarrassing loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10.
It was another game of offensive incompetency for the Patriots who only managed to put up six points during the game.
The defense did its job limiting Indianapolis to just 10 points, but the lack of scoring from the New England side was the difference in the game.
Mac Jones has come under fire throughout the season for his poor decision-making with the football, and things came to a head when he was benched on the team’s final possession for Bailey Zappe.
Zappe wasn’t any better as he threw an interception in the closing moments to give the Colts the victory and send the Patriots home stewing over another loss.
Head coach Bill Belichick explained the decision to bench Jones and left the door open for Zappe to start once the team comes back from its bye week via James Palmer of NFL Network.
“Thought it was time for a change,” Belichick said. “Look, I made the decision, that’s what it was. We’ll deal with next week, next week.”

Belichick is still trying to win games and will trot out whichever quarterback gives the team their best shot at doing that.
Jones has taken a step back after a promising rookie season, and with Zappe waiting in the wings his time as the starter could very well be coming to an end.
For now, Belichick will use the time off to consider his options and fans will have to wait and see who he ends up going with in Week 12.
