The Toronto Blue Jays have extended free agent third baseman Matt Chapman a qualifying offer.

Chapman was the only free-agent player extended a qualifying offer by the Blue Jays.

This season, the one-year qualifying offer is worth approximately $20.325 million. Chapman has seven days to accept or decline the offer, but he is expected to decline it and secure a much more lucrative contract in free agency.

If Chapman does sign with another team after declining the qualifying offer, the Blue Jays will receive some draft pick compensation.

In addition to the Chapman move, the Blue Jays announced the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Brendon Little from the Cubs. Little, 27, has one MLB appearance on his resume and had a 4.06 ERA in triple-A last season.

Both Little and right-handed pitcher Mitch White were selected to the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster on Monday.
