Daniel Snyder’s reign in our nation’s capital is over as he sold the Washington Commanders to a group headlined by billionaire investor Josh Harris and NBA great Magic Johnson earlier this year.

The team made a move on Tuesday right before the trade deadline by dealing edge rusher Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears for a second-round pick in next year’s draft.

Sweat has the potential to help a Bears defense that has been struggling mightily this season, especially on defense.

However, when it comes to signing a contract extension, he seems non-committal, per Clay Harbor.

The Bears are 2-6 and rank near the bottom of the league in several key defensive categories, and they’re coming off a 30-13 drubbing at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers in which they allowed Justin Herbert to complete 31 of 40 pass attempts for 298 yards and three touchdowns.

Sweat, the No. 26 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, has 6.5 sacks, 11 quarterback hits, 10 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles in eight games so far this season.

He recently turned 27 years of age, and therefore he could be a building block for Chicago moving forward if he wants to stick around with them past this season.

The Bears have to decide where they want to go with QB Justin Fields, who played well in Week 4 and Week 5 but struggled greatly in his next game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Fields has been out ever since with a thumb injury, and Tyson Bagent has filled in under center, completing 70.0 percent of his passes this season.
