Craig Counsell is the man of the moment in MLB.
While the Texas Rangers celebrate their World Series title, a handful of squads are looking for their next manager.
The Cleveland Guardians, the Houston Astros, the Los Angeles Angels, and the San Diego Padres are some of the MLB teams with managerial openings.
The New York Mets, who fired Buck Showalter, are another one.
Speaking of the Mets, they recently hired David Stearns to run the club’s baseball operations.
Stearns has worked with Counsell since 2015, when both were with the Milwaukee Brewers.
There is significant interest by the Mets in Counsell joining the team and becoming the new skipper.
After more than a week of rumors and reports, Counsell is about to finally interview for the Mets managerial position.
“Craig Counsell is in New York today for a formal interview with the Mets, a source confirmed. The managerial search is getting there, and much will obviously hinge upon the level of mutual interest between the Mets and Counsell. Stay tuned,” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted.

The Mets are interested in Counsell… is the interest mutual?
One would think so given Counsell’s working relationship with Stearns and his potential payday in Queens, but there haven’t been any reports to confirm that.
The Guardians are also pretty interested in Counsell, known for his understanding of analytics and for being good at explaining them to his players.
Once Counsell announces his next destination, the teams with openings are likely to bring in other alternatives.
