It had the potential to be a banner day for Canadians in NCAA football.
Instead, it turned out to be a real downer.
After Pitt quarterback Christian Veilleux and Ohio QB Nathan Rourke suffered losses with their respected teams, breakout Stanford receiving star Elic Ayomanor exited with an apparent shoulder injury, according to multiple reports, in the second half of a 42-33 loss against fifth-ranked Washington.
“No word at all,” Stanford coach Troy Taylor said when asked about the injury. “Hopefully we’ll get more of that tomorrow and Monday to see where he’s at.”

Ayomanor had nine catches for 146 yards and one touchdown before exiting as Stanford (2-6) fell just short of a major upset against unbeaten Washington (8-0).
Ayomanor, a sophomore from Medicine Hat, Alta., has 36 catches for 591 yards and four touchdowns this season, including a 294-yard outing earlier this month against Colorado.
Meanwhile, Veilleux had a forgettable afternoon in a 58-7 loss at No. 14 Notre Dame.
After two promising starts in a win against previously undefeated Louisville and a close loss against Wake Forest in the aftermath of being promoted to the top job, the Ottawa native threw four interceptions as Pitt fell to 2-6.
“I didn’t play the type of football, the level of football that I want to play,” Veilleux said. “I definitely have to go back and watch the film. I made too many mistakes. A lot of it, I should have either just taken a sack or scrambled. It’s all on me. I take full responsibility.”
Veilleux was pulled late, but coach Pat Narduzzi said he’ll remain the starter for next week’s home game against No. 4 Florida State.
Rourke, from Oakville, Ont., threw for 313 yards and one touchdown, but his Ohio Bobcats (6-2) lost 30-16 against the visiting Miami RedHawks (7-2) in MAC play.
Rourke, the younger brother of Jacksonville Jaguars QB Nathan Rourke, plays close to home next time out as Ohio travels to Buffalo on Nov. 7.
On a more positive note, Windsor, Ont. tight end Theo Johnson had a touchdown reception as No. 10 Penn State beat Indiana 33-24.
