Nick Bosa spent the majority of the offseason away from the San Francisco 49ers.

He was awaiting a contract extension and chose not to be with the team while negotiations were happening.

This is a growing trend across the league, as more and more players are choosing to hold out from their respective teams.

While Bosa was eventually locked down with an extension, his actions might have come with consequences.

In a recent media session shared via ProFootbalk Talk, Bosa indicated that his holdout affected him a “little bit,” a potential reason for a slower-than-normal start to the year.

Through seven games, Bosa has totaled 20 tackles and just 2.5 sacks.

While this might seem like a normal stat line through seven weeks, Bosa has higher standards for himself.

He ended the 2022 season with 51 tackles and 18.5 sacks, a sign that he is currently far from his best as a defender.

With any luck, Bosa will catch fire in the back half of the season, proving to himself and the 49ers that he is worth every penny moving forward.

Despite his lack of individual stats, Bosa has still helped the 49ers’ defense, keeping their place as a top unit across the league.

They are allowing 15.6 points per game, the third-lowest total in the NFL.

If their offense can keep scoring, the 49ers should be able to maintain their positioning as one of the NFC’s best teams.

However, with two losses in a row, that standing could come crashing down if current trends persist.
