When the San Francisco 49ers started this season 5-0, plenty of people felt they had the best overall team in the NFL.

But now, after two straight losses, they have lost some of their luster.

Quarterback Brock Purdy, after such a sensational start to his pro career, has had two subpar games, and their defense doesn’t look quite as impenetrable as it used to.

Former player James Jones said on FS1’s “Speak” that he’s worried, nervous, and scared about the 49ers as they prepare to host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, Purdy completed 21 of 30 passes for 272 yards, and he did enough to put his team in position to win — until he threw an interception with less than a minute left.

The week before, he was a poor 12 of 27 in a two-point loss to the surprising Cleveland Browns.

San Francisco lost by just five points to the Vikings, but their defense was decimated by Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins and his teammates.

Cousins went 35 of 45 for 378 yards, while wide receiver Jordan Addison had 123 receiving yards and tight end T.J. Hockenson had 11 catches for 86 yards.

The fact that the Niners lost with superstar wideout Justin Jefferson out due to injury made the loss feel even worse for them.

If Purdy isn’t cleared to play this weekend, backup Sam Darnold, who has been considered a bust despite being the No. 3 pick in the 2018 draft, would start in his place.

Some feel he would do just fine, but he has been turnover-prone since coming into the NFL.
