The Los Angeles Chargers needed a win in Week 7 to keep their playoff hopes alive, but they fell flat on their face against the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chargers lost to the Chiefs, 31-17, and fell to 2-4 during the 2023 NFL season, a precarious place to be considering the high hopes the organization had coming into the new year.
Los Angeles has sorely been missing Mike Williams as their vertical downfield threat as Justin Herbert has tried his best to uplift the offense on his own.
However, Kansas City’s defense is looking like one of the best in the league right now and were able to shut down Herbert and company for large stretches of the day.
Brandon Staley has to be feeling the heat at this point as the media and fans have been calling for his job following another subpar year.
Richard Sherman is particularly appalled with how Staley has been running the defense given his reputation as a defensive-minded coach, via The Volume.
“He’s taking sugar, water, lemons and making feces,” Sherman said.

Those are strong words from Sherman but the message is right on the nose as Staley’s got excellent talent at all three levels of his defense that still can’t seem to string together enough stops on a weekly basis.
The Chargers look like a team that’s lost faith in its head coach, though so far there have been no rumblings of Staley potentially being let go.
Perhaps the franchise will give him some more time to turn things around, but that needs to start this coming Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
