The San Francisco Giants parted ways with manager Gabe Kapler before the end of the regular season after their failed pursuit of a Wild Card spot.
Apparently, Kapler has his sights on a front office role, which is kind of shocking since there aren’t a lot of former managers who have had head of baseball operations jobs in recent history.
Still, there have been reports on Friday that Kapler has indeed interviewed for such a position with a historic contender: the Boston Red Sox.
“Gabe Kapler has interviewed for a position to head baseball operations with the Red Sox, per @alexspeier,” Talkin’ Baseball tweeted.

Kapler is a man of baseball, interested in many of the aspects and things that a head of baseball operations does.
Not a lot of people remember that before being hired as the Philadelphia Phillies’ manager in 2018, he became the Los Angeles Dodgers’ director of player development.
He relies on statistics and analytics and tries to preach their use in the organizations he has been involved with.
Perhaps the fact he has his own way to see things from a front-office perspective clashed with the Giants’ executives and resulted in the decision to move forward without him.
As of Friday, it’s not clear what direction the Red Sox will go with their head of baseball operations after firing Chaim Bloom before the season reached an end.
However, the fact they are considering Kapler is noteworthy.
It could make for a fine story, and it would give Kapler a chance to start over with a new organization and with new resources.
