With their matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers this past Monday tied at 7-7, the Dallas Cowboys got the ball with less than a minute to go in the second quarter.
After a few plays, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott managed to lead his offense all the way down to the Chargers’ 17-yard line.
Prescott threw a short three-yard pass to Dallas running back Tony Pollard in the middle of the field with 14 seconds left on the clock, and instead of stopping the clock with a timeout to make one last attempt at getting into the end zone in the first half, the Cowboys opted to let the clock run down to three seconds and kick a field goal.
On Tuesday, Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones was asked on a local Dallas radio station if he thought the Cowboys should have attempted to run another play before kicking a field goal at the end of the second quarter (via The Athletic’s Jon Machota).
“This is not an impassioned response to your question at all, but I thought we should’ve tried another pass in the end zone and use the clock accordingly,” Jones said.

Jones has never been one to dance around the truth, so we should be able to trust that his thoughts on this topic are legitimate.
Luckily, Dallas was able to leave Los Angeles with a win this past Monday, but it was only a three-point victory.
Perhaps the outcome of the game would have turned out differently had the Cowboys made another attempt at scoring a touchdown in the final seconds of the first half.
That’s obviously something we’ll never find out, but again, Dallas got the win, and that’s all that really matters.
