Coming into Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Detroit Lions were thought to be put to the test against a formidable opponent that has been better than expected this season, with Baker Mayfield and company sporting a 3-1 record.
However, that didn’t prove to be the case, with the Buccaneers struggling all day to put up points against the Lions defense while veteran quarterback Jared Goff got the job done offensively for Detroit.
Although the Lions came out of this game with a relatively easy win over the Buccaneers, beating Tampa Bay 20-6, the run game for Detroit, which has been its bread and butter this season, took a potentially massive hit.
Running back David Montgomery, who has been one of the best players at his position in the NFL this season, went down with a rib injury, which left the team short of not one but two running backs, with rookie Jahmyr Gibbs forced to miss this game with a hamstring injury.
Fortunately, the Lions were still able to win this game with Goff picking up the slack offensively, but Montgomery could miss some time, according to head coach Dan Campbell via ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Lions’ HC Dan Campbell said RB David Montgomery will be out for “a little bit” due to a rib cartilage injury.

The Lions will have a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way this season with perhaps a couple of tough matchups against teams like the Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers, and Dallas Cowboys, so they might be able to get by without Montgomery for some time, especially if Gibbs returns next week.
In Week 7, the Lions will go head-to-head against the Ravens, which will test this team’s ability to play at a high level offensively if Montgomery can’t get back on the field.
