The Detroit Lions are looking good so far this season, and while quarterback Jared Goff is putting up solid numbers, not everyone feels he deserves praise.

Before they took on the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, during the game’s Amazon Prime telecast, said that Goff is a “poor man’s Matt Ryan,” referring to the former signal-caller who was benched by the Indianapolis Colts late last season.

Goff claimed he wasn’t bothered by Fitzpatrick’s comment, or any of his other critics, via LionsFanReport on Twitter.

Several years ago, when he was a member of the Los Angeles Rams, Goff was accused of being only somewhat better than an average quarterback.

He made the Pro Bowl in 2017 and 2018 and led the Rams to a Super Bowl appearance at the end of the 2018 campaign, but it looked like he simply wasn’t a next-level player.

Los Angeles traded him to the Lions prior to the 2021 season for Matthew Stafford, a move that helped Los Angeles finally win it all.

But in Detroit, Goff has raised his game — last year, he threw for 4,438 yards and 29 touchdowns while limiting himself to seven interceptions, earning himself his third Pro Bowl nod.

Through four contests this year, he has completed an excellent 69.5 percent of his pass attempts for the 3-1 Lions.

The Lions will take on the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the next two weeks, giving them an opportunity to fatten up their record even more before they face off against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7.
