Joe Namath is a legend among New York Jets fans as the only quarterback to have led the franchise to it’s only Super Bowl victory.
Guaranteeing the victory against the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III also added to his lore.
Per Fox Sports, Namath criticized Wilson in a recent interview with a New York sports radio station.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer said, “No, I didn’t take anything positive out of [the game] yesterday, “It was awful. … Let’s stay on Zach, you sit down? You sit down on a play? You go right down? What happened? I thought you were trying to win and make plays. You quit on a play. What is going on? It’s disgusting.”
However, Namath’s recent comments about Zach Wilson did not sit well with the organization, per NFL insider Josina Anderson.
“The other thing I wanted to say is that while Joe Namath certainly has the right to publicly share his opinions on the Jets—as the Jets’ lone Super Bowl-winning QB—I’m told his comments were more hurtful to some in the building than I think people realize,” Anderson tweeted.

While things have been tough lately following Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury, those within the Jets organization haven’t forgotten the improvements they’ve experienced since Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh took over their respective positions.
Before Saleh, Adam Gase led the Jets to a 2-14 record in 2020.
Since then, they’ve gradually improved from 4-13 to 7-10.
Meanwhile, Douglas took over in 2019 and had a big say in drafting Quinnen Williams, Mekhi Becton, Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall.
Anderson also made an interesting point that the Jets didn’t have a contingency plan if Rodgers got hurt.
Wilson was there as a backup but didn’t expect to play meaningful minutes this season.
Therefore, the Jets were not prepared if the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player sat out some games.
The Jets are currently at 1-2 and will host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4.
