In their series against the Los Angeles Lakers, it was apparent that the Golden State Warriors didn’t have the requisite size in the frontcourt to really compete.
The Warriors had no answer for Anthony Davis, who was the best player in their six-game series, and so the team went into the offseason with a clear need for another big man.
Golden State seemed to address the issue when by drafting Trayce Jackson-Davis in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft, but the rookie isn’t expected to play many minutes.
The Warriors also decided to sign Dario Saric to a minimum deal, though he is more of a power forward than a true center.
Without a traditional five on the roster besides Kevon Looney, there was speculation that they would bring in Dwight Howard as they brought him in for a workout.
However, Golden State never signed Howard and GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. explained why, via NBC Sports.

Dunleavy revealed that Howard was just one of numerous players the organization brought in for workouts and evaluations and added that they feel good about who they’ll be bringing in to training camp.
Golden State’s got two roster spots they can fill and so it stands to reason that they will add another center at some point.
Howard is far past his prime and while his name will get fans’ attention, it’s probably for the best that they passed him over.
For now, the Warriors will use training camp and preseason to determine who is worthy of being added to the roster.
