The Golden State Warriors‘ core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green may be aging, but they’re hoping to get one more NBA championship out of the trio.

While Green recently got a big contract extension to remain with them after it looked like he had one foot out the door, Thompson is going into the final year of his current deal, and both sides would like to get an extension done.

However, GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. says there is no timeline to get an extension done for Thompson, via NBC Sports.

After Golden State took Thompson in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft, he emerged as a star within a few seasons, as well as one of the best outside shooters anyone had ever seen.

He made his first All-Star team during the 2014-15 season, a season in which he averaged 21.7 points a game while hitting 43.9 percent from 3-point range, and it was also the season the Warriors won their first ring of the Curry era.

Thompson has had a history of big playoff games, including Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals versus the Oklahoma City Thunder in which the Warriors trailed late while facing elimination, as well as a few during their most recent championship run in 2022.

But he suffered a torn ACL in 2019 and a torn Achilles in 2020, and although he regained much of his mojo last season, many feel he isn’t quite the same, especially on the defensive end.

The 33-year-old may still have enough left in the tank to help Golden State contend for another title, but it is an open question as to how much he deserves to be paid on his next deal.
