Throughout Illinois, many looked forward to this season as the one in which they felt Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields would blossom into a bona fide star.

But so far, he has continued to struggle, and there is now some considerable doubt that he will ever become a high-quality signal-caller.

Fields and the Bears have lost 10 games in a row, and former player turned analyst Emmanuel Acho says Fields’ reputation is on the line in their Week 3 contest at the Kansas City Chiefs, per “Speak” on FS1.

Through two games, Fields has a 60.6 percent pass completion rate and has thrown three interceptions against just two touchdown passes.

Not coincidentally, the Bears rank just 22nd in points and 26th in total yards so far this year.

There would be almost no better way for Fields to reverse the doubt that now surrounds him by playing a great game and delivering Chicago a victory on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

But unless he does so, it is starting to look like the team made a mistake by sticking with him.

After going 3-14 last season, Chicago had the No.1 pick in April’s draft, which gave them the opportunity to take University of Alabama quarterback Bryce Young or perhaps C.J. Stroud from Ohio State.

Instead, they traded that pick to the Carolina Panthers and took back stud wide receiver DJ Moore, which was tantamount to a vote of confidence in Fields.

It has been decades since they have had a top-shelf QB, and Bears fans are growing very restless for their team to become a consistent winner.
