After failed stints with the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers and limited success with the Los Angeles Rams, the future looked bleak for former No. 1 pick Baker Mayfield, as it was unclear whether he’d get another starting job in the NFL.
Fortunately for Mayfield, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had to find Tom Brady’s successor after he decided to retire following the 2022 NFL season, and the team was willing to take a chance on Mayfield.
Many expected Mayfield to fall flat in Tampa Bay, especially after having to fight for the starting job with Kyle Trask during training camp and over the course of the preseason.
Despite the doubts he’s had to deal with in Tampa Bay thus far, Mayfield has exceeded expectations through the first two weeks of the 2023 NFL season, with two wins and zero interceptions.
Richard Sherman of FOX Sports has been impressed with what Mayfield has been able to do with the Buccaneers and argues he looks like the No. 1 pick that he was meant to be, via The Volume.

With the first two games in the books, Mayfield has thrown for 490 yards and three touchdowns with a completion percentage of 69.1 and a passer rating of 104.4.
Needless to say, Mayfield has this Buccaneers team heading in the right direction while not turning the ball over and looking like the team’s undisputed leader heading into Week 3’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Mayfield and the Buccaneers will have their work cut out for them in Week 3 as they play host to the Eagles in their toughest challenge thus far this season.
