The 2023 NFL offseason yielded several storylines that took the community by storm.
Between massive trades, new contracts, and news of players sitting out, there was no shortage of news for NFL fans.
Three quarterbacks received large contracts before their 2023 season began, each seemingly outdoing the other.
As the 2023 season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions started, news of a fourth contract broke.
As Adam Schefter reported, the Cincinnati Bengals signed Joe Burrow to a five-year, $275 million deal.
This deal was nearly $13 million more than the next closest, as Justin Herbert had gotten a five-year, $262.5 million contract earlier in the year.
Joe Burrow is now the fourth quarterback this off-season to sign a market resetting contract extension:
🏈 Joe Burrow: 5-years, $275M
🏈 Justin Herbert: 5-years, $262.5M
🏈 Jalen Hurts: 5-years, $255M
🏈 Lamar Jackson: 5-years, $260M— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 8, 2023
This was one of the Bengals’ biggest questions heading into the season, which has now been answered.
Burrow is not only the highest-paid quarterback in the league, but his $55 million average is the most in NFL history.
Now that his contract is out of the way, he can focus on his on-field performances for the upcoming campaign.
The Bengals are viewed as a top AFC team, looking to unseat the Chiefs as reigning champions.
Even though Burrow has only played for three seasons, he has already put together an impressive resume.
One of his largest accomplishments to date is beating the Chiefs in the 2021 AFC Championship, something many believed would not happen.
This cemented the Bengals as a perennial favorite in the AFC, especially with Burrow at the helm.
The Bengals’ 2023 season kicks off with a matchup with the Cleveland Browns, a tough fight between division rivals.
