The St. Louis Cardinals originally were going to start Adam Wainwright on Sunday, giving him yet another crack at winning his 199th career game.

However, the team has chosen to shuffle its rotation slightly.

No longer will the two-time World Series champion and three-time All-Star be starting the series finale.

St. Louis has yet to announce who will ultimately get that start, but manager Oli Marmol stated that it will not be the 42-year-old right-hander.

On Twitter, John Denton of MLB.com revealed the news of the Cardinals’ recent rotation shuffle and what the plans currently are for how to proceed with Wainwright going forward.

Denton revealed that instead of starting Wainwright on Sunday, the Cardinals will push him back at least one day so that he can get one final start against the Atlanta Braves.

The Braves are the team that drafted Wainwright, who is a native of Brunswick, Georgia.

St. Louis acquired Wainwright from the Braves in December of 2003 in what ended up being one of the most lopsided trades in Cardinals history.

Wainwright has played his entire career with the Cardinals.

But it appears that the veteran right-hander will get one last chance to make a start in his home state of Georgia.

This will also allow Wainwright to skip pitching at Great American Ballpark when the Cardinals play the Cincinnati Reds, as that is a venue where Wainwright has struggled in the past.

For now, the rotation will look slightly different, and Sunday’s starter is not yet confirmed.
