Over the past two years or so, the rumors have been swirling about Kyrie Irving’s future in the NBA and where he might land if he had his choice in NBA free agency.
Earlier this summer, Irving didn’t take long to recommit to the Dallas Mavericks on a three-year deal to play alongside superstar Luka Doncic.
Although the rumors were circulating with the Los Angeles Lakers rumored to be a potential destination, that never turned out to be realistic, Los Angeles seemed unwilling to commit long-term to Irving, as they went with D’Angelo Russell instead.
However, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the possibility of LeBron James and Irving joining forces again is still lingering, as things could get interesting ahead of the NBA trade deadline in February if things don’t seem to be working out in Dallas via Legion Hoops.
“[LeBron’s] made it very clear that he and Kyrie have made up… LeBron has been very keen on potentially playing with Kyrie again. I would not be surprised if those rumors come up again, closer to the trade deadline, depending on what happens at Dallas.”

It seems no matter what happens with Irving, these Lakers rumors won’t go away, which may mean there is something to it, as it may not be just a bunch of smoke.
However, there’s a lot of time and a lot of basketball to be played between now and February of next year, so it’s hard to believe anything that gets floated out there this early in the process.
Even though that may be the case right now, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that if the Lakers and Mavericks are struggling heading toward the trade deadline that they don’t at least have a conversation about a potential deal.
