Manchester United have agreed on a deal to sign Atlanta BC center-forward Rasmus Hojlund (via sky sports)
After signing Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan the Red Devils were pushing to sign a centre forward who would make a difference upfront. In recent press conferences, Erik Ten Hag was crystal clear about signing a centre forward who can pose a threat to the opposition’s defence and guarantee goals.
Hojlund’s incredible pace and excellent ball control had made him a hot property in the transfer market as several clubs enquired about his availability.
The 20-year-old scored 10 goals and registered four assists in 34 appearances for Atlanta during the 2022-23 campaign after making the move to Italy from Sturm Graz.
French giants Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United were leading the race when it came to plotting a transfer move for the young striker. While PSG was offering a high salary a move to Parc Des Prince would not materialize as the Danish international preferred donning the Manchester United jersey instead.
The Red Devils have agreed to sign the young striker on a deal that is worth an initial £64m with a further £8m in add-ons. The first bid submitted by Manchester United was rejected by Atlanta as it didn’t meet their demands.
The 20-year-old has agreed to a 5-year contract with the option of an additional 12 months. Manchester United were handed a massive transfer boost as Atlanta had signed Hojlund’s replacement over the weekend. The 21-year-old El Bilal Toure was acquired to fill in the gap left by Hojlund.
United have been very active this transfer window and now signing more players would largely depend upon the departure of a few players. The players who could leave the team this transfer window are Harry Maguire, Scott Mctominay, Fred and Donny Van De Beek.
The Premier League giants are still interested in signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
Real Sociedad in talks to sign Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek on loan with option to buy
In another interesting development, Donny Van De Beek could leave the Red Devils as Real Sociedad have expressed their interest in acquiring the Dutchmen’s services (via metro)
With Manchester United singing Mason Mount, Donny Van De Beek’s role at the club is cast in doubt. The arrival of the England international would see Van De Beek being pushed down the pecking order.
The 26-year-old has endured a frustrating spell at Manchester United as he has been able to score just two goals and grab two assists in over 60 appearances.
According to several reports Sociedad is in talks with United and are keen on signing Van de Beek on a loan deal that will include an £8m buyout clause.
It will be interesting to see how this transfer materializes as the English club were looking for around £20m for the Dutchman who still has two years left on his contract.
