Though the St. Louis Cardinals are having a dreadful season, two-time World Series champion Adam Wainwright is just two wins shy of 200 for his career.
However, he’s stuck on 198, as win No. 199 has been elusive for the veteran right-hander.
The 41-year-old pitched a solid game on Saturday night against the Chicago Cubs, allowing four runs but making it through six innings for the first time since June 17 at Citi Field.
After the game, Wainwright discussed the fact that he remains stuck at 198 wins and why he is still confident that he’ll eventually reach the 200-win mark later this season.
Waino on still sitting at 198 career wins: “I feel very confident that we’re going to win a bunch of games for me going forward. People keep saying ‘just two more’ and I’m like I got two months of starts. Two is not the goal.” #STLCards pic.twitter.com/MOgYGyWffK

Wainwright first commented on his outing, lamenting a few mistakes that cost him some runs.
The veteran right-hander then discussed the fact that he is still two wins shy of 200 for his career.
Wainwright didn’t hang his head and stated that he’s very confident that the Cardinals will win some more games, including those he starts, which would ultimately put him at 200 wins.
He also talked about how people keep telling him he’s just two wins away from reaching that mark and revealed that he tells them he still has two more months to reach the mark.
The right-hander says that simply winning two more games is not his goal.
With Saturday’s loss, the three-time All-Star fell to 3-5 on the season.
Wainwright is retiring at the end of the 2023 season.
He is the last remaining holdover from the Cardinals World Series championship teams in 2006 and 2011.
The team entered Sunday’s game against the Cubs with a dismal record of 46-60.
