New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley will report to training camp after signing a one-year deal worth up to $11 million, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday.

Barkley did not reach a deal with the Giants prior to last Monday’s deadline for players on a franchise tag to reach a new multi-year contract with teams.
The two sides talked until the 4 p.m. ET deadline but could not settle on a deal, even though the Giants reportedly offered one worth more than $12 million annually.
With the deadline passed, Barkley and the Giants could only discuss a sweetened one-year contract.
Barkley did not sign his franchise tag.
“When a player doesn’t do a long-term deal by the mid-July deadline, the only option is a one-year deal,” Rapoport wrote. “But the two sides can negotiate that one-year franchise tag into a one-year new contract. It’s very rare. But that’s what happened here. Smart on all sides.”
Barkley rushed for a career-high 1,312 yards as well as 10 touchdowns last season as the Giants made the playoffs under first-year head coach Brian Daboll.
