The Las Vegas Raiders had an embarrassing 2022 season in which they won just six games and missed the playoffs despite being pegged as legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
While Derek Carr didn’t quite get the job done at quarterback and was benched and later replaced, defense was the biggest culprit.
They ranked 26th in points allowed and 28th in total yards allowed, and their pass defense was particularly porous.
But some help may be on the way, as the team has signed cornerback Marcus Peters to a one-year contract.

Not too long ago, Peters was one of the best defensive backs in the NFL, and he has three Pro Bowl and two All-Pro First Team selections to his name.
As a rookie in 2015 with the Kansas City Chiefs, he led the league with a whopping 26 passes defended, as well as eight interceptions, two of which he turned into pick-sixes.
Peters also has plenty of playoff experience, and he appeared in Super Bowl LIII as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.
But he tore his ACL just prior to the start of the 2021 season, which forced him to miss the entire schedule, and he wasn’t quite the same last season.
Up front, the Raiders aren’t too bad defensively, as they have Pro Bowl defensive end Maxx Crosby, as well as four-time Pro Bowler Chandler Jones opposite him.
But they were just 29th in passing yards allowed last season, and they’re hoping Peters will help improve their performance in that category while helping them return to the postseason.
