No team in the NFL has made more headlines over the course of the offseason than the New York Jets, and that trend continued this week with the storied franchise making an unexpected trade.

The one thing everyone keeps talking about when referring to the Jets and the team’s chance of competing next season is the team’s offensive firepower, with superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers adding a much-needed dynamic to the team.

Along with Rodgers under center, the Jets have wide receivers Garrett Wilson, Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, and Mecole Hardman downfield, which makes it tough for anyone else to crack the roster at that position.

This apparently led the team to trade wide receiver Denzel Mims to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a draft pick in 2025, but there’s one condition.

Mims has to make the 53-man roster, or picks will not be exchanged, according to Ari Meirov.

Mims was considered a promising young receiver coming out of Baylor University, with the Jets drafting him with the 59th overall pick in the second round in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Unfortunately, Mims has only caught 42 passes during that time for 676 yards and zero touchdowns, which isn’t what a team wants from a second-round pick at a skill position.

With the Jets in win-now mode, New York doesn’t have time to build up a player like Mims in order for him to reach his potential, which makes Detroit an ideal spot for him as it may be exactly what he needs to unlock his skills.
