With the second half of the 2023 season now underway, we are now starting to see who the true contenders are and who ultimately will be sitting this October out.
The Los Angeles Angels are currently on the outside looking in, but they may be starting to heat up at just the right time.
Despite being 3-7 in their last 10 games, they have won two in a row, both of which have come against the slumping New York Yankees.
They beat New York by a final score of 5-1 on Tuesday night to come to within 4.5 games of the final Wild Card spot.
On Twitter, Bob Nightengale pointed out the fact that the Halos aren’t out of the race just yet.

The #Angels beat the #Yankees again, pull to within .500, and are now just 4.5 games of a wild-card berth.— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) July 19, 2023
The win also brought the Angels back to the .500 mark.
They closed out the first half on a low note, but they may have turned the corner as the trade deadline approaches.
The baseball world is speculating over what may happen with two-way star Shohei Ohtani and whether or not he will be traded at the deadline.
But with the Angels close in the race, it isn’t clear what direction they’ll go.
Either way, they have proven to be a very sneaky postseason contender and a club that could surprise some people down the stretch.
They are nine games back of first place in the AL West, so a comeback to the top of the division is unlikely.
But a Wild Card berth is still very much a possibility for the Halos, who gained a little bit of ground with their huge win over the Yankees on Tuesday night.
