Wimbledon has a new Men’s Singles champion as Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic 1-6, 7-6(8-6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, in a pulsating Men’s Final at the All England Club.
Having captured a 10th Australian and third French Open Title, Djokovic was looking to make it three Slams in a row, by attempting to win his eighth Wimbledon title, which would have put him level with the great Roger Federer,
On the other hand, Alcaraz was looking to win his second Grand Slam, having won the US Open last September.
And it was the defending champion who stormed through the first set, taking 6-1.
After watching the first set, many started to wonder whether this was a match too far for the young Spaniard, but he stepped up his game 9in the second set and won the tiebreak 8-6 thanks to an unbelievable return winner.
Alcaraz was in total command in the third set, after he eventually broke the Sebinator’s serve in an elongated first game, which lasted 27 minutes.
And after winning the set 6-1, there were some doubts starting to creep into the mind of the Serbinator that perhaps the Calender Grand Slam was perhaps a bridge too far.
But like all great champions, Djokovic showed his steel, and took advantage of some loose errors from Alcaraz, to take the fourth set 3-6, end send the final into a decider.
But the Spaniard was not put off by the occasion, as he broke the Serbinator in the third game of the final set, to eventually win it by six games to four.
“It is a dream come true for me,” “Even if I lost, I would have been proud of myself. To be able to play in these stages of these occasions – as a boy of 20 years old – is really fast. “I’m really proud of myself.”

Alcaraz also becomes the second youngest male singles player at the age of 20 to win Wimbledon, after Boris Becker’s win as a 17-year-old in 1985. The Spaniard also maintains his status as the World
While Djokovic still remains on 23 Grand Slams and misses out on another opportunity of a calendar Grand Slam.
