It seems that almost every young player in the NBA today grew up watching and idolizing Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, who left his mark on the league during his two decades wearing the Purple and Gold.
Along with a lot of players being inspired by Bryant and everything he accomplished on and off the floor before his tragic passing in 2020, some players heading into the NBA are sporting the five-time NBA champion’s name, including Los Angeles Clippers rookie Kobe Brown.
Brown, who the Clippers selected with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, gave a postgame interview during the NBA Summer League and was asked whether he was named after the late Hall of Famer.
The Clippers newcomer didn’t hesitate to confirm that he was, in fact, named after the NBA icon, via ClutchPoints.

Brown will likely be one of many that share the name of the Lakers legend in the years to come, as Bryant left quite a legacy after hanging them up back in 2016 with his incredible 60-point finale against the Utah Jazz.
As for the Clippers rookie, Brown is coming off a Kobe-like performance in which he dropped 35 points against the Philadelphia 76ers while going 7-for-10 from beyond the arc to help Los Angeles secure the 11-point win over the 76ers.
With the Clippers lacking depth in the backcourt, it’ll be interesting to see if Brown can earn his way into the team’s rotation next season and make a real impact for Los Angeles during the 2023-24 campaign.
