Following the announcement that AlphaTauri driver, Nyck De Vries has been replaced with immediate effect by former Red Bull favourite, Daniel Riccardo who, after a shaky last season at McLaren, lost his seat taking his place as Red Bull’s reserve driver.
The wheels were put in motion when Riccardo was reported to have been taking part in the Pirelli Tyre Testing, at Silverstone post Grand Prix, with the announcement coming shortly after De Vries departure.
Although not unexpected due to a poor performance in the first half of the season, earning a total of 0 points over the course of 10 races and his best drive being at the Monaco GP, where he placed just out of the points, finishing 12th.
It has left many scratching their heads.
What next for the former FormulaE champion?
At this point we can only speculate however there are two glaringly obvious roles he could slot into with ease and still have a foot in the door for a possible return down the line.
- AlphaTauri’ reserve driver: Whilst an unlikely move due to the 3 young talents of Liam Lawson, Zane Maloney and Dennis Hauger waiting to prove themselves as well as being listed as AlphaTauri’ choice of reserve drivers it isn’t out of the realms of possibility for De Vries.
- A possible return to FormulaE: Considering his successful background in FormulaE and his fantastic performance during the 2021-22 season which led to him winning the Championship. It also is of high likely hood a possible move back to the league is being considered.
With his fate still unknown we can only speculate . We send our best wishes to De Vries during this incredibly tough time and wait eagerly to see what the 28 year old driver has planned for the future.
