The NFL offseason has been filled with several exciting storylines, many involving players signing new contracts, or joining new teams.
There are a few players that find themselves at odds with their current teams, however.
One of those is Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants, who placed the franchise tag on him.
However, Barkley is determined to sign a new contract and is allegedly refusing to play under the franchise tag.
While there have been various reports that the two sides were coming closer together, a recent update has indicated otherwise.
According to Dianna Russini of ESPN, “Talks between the New York Giants and Saquon Barkley are really at a stalemate.”
The Giants and Saquon Barkley are at a “stalemate” in contract negotiations 👀
“The option is on the table for [Saquon] to skip training camp, and to even miss Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys … if he’s not able to get this long-term deal done.” —@diannaESPN pic.twitter.com/WGlZqvDAp1

If Barkley and the team are unable to agree, Russini believes that he could be in jeopardy of missing games during the season.
The deadline for a deal to be signed is Monday, July 17.
While fans and analysts wait for this domino to fall, the state of the Giants’ running game is in serious trouble.
Barkley was a massive part of their offense last season, a big reason for their success.
Daniel Jones was able to take a step forward as a rusher and as a passer, as a result of Barkley’s on-field abilities.
This is a developing story, and there is a lot more information that is slated to come forth in the coming days.
With any luck, Barkley and the Giants will be able to come to an agreement, working out a new contract moving forward.
