Running back Dalvin Cook remains an NFL free agent about two months before the start of the 2023 regular season, and it doesn’t appear he’s in any particular rush to sign with a team.

He has made the Pro Bowl and run for at least 1,100 yards in each of the last four seasons, and he could single-handedly improve the fortunes of whichever team he ends up playing for this fall.

There has been a lot of chatter that Cook may end up with the Miami Dolphins, and it’s no wonder why, as a high-level running back is perhaps the one thing they currently lack.

In addition, Cook is originally from the Miami area.

Analyst Andrew Hawkins said on “NFL Live” that the Dolphins are indeed the best fit for Cook.

Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins’ head coach, served one year as the offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers under head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Shanahan employs an offensive scheme that maximizes the production of running backs, and Hawkins mentioned that it’s the type of scheme McDaniel uses in Miami that could really help Cook.

Last season, McDaniel went with Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson, both of whom played for him when he was in San Francisco, in the backfield.

Although Mostert posted 891 rushing yards on 4.9 yards per attempt, he isn’t exactly an outstanding or prolific threat.

Cook could not only give Miami a big threat on the ground, but he’s also something of a dual-threat tailback, not too much unlike Christian McCaffrey, who joined Shanahan’s squad in October.
